That Certain Morning
(November 26, 1990)
Oh
sluggard sun
brown cows, frigid,
huddle upon frosted grass;
sheep, thickening for the oncoming,
scatter around, nudging the reluctant ground;
and cars, jeeps, pickups line the road.
Blastthunder rolls round the hills.
Crashas barren shrubs tremble,
the heaving buck leaps:
blind animal fear
is the
goad.
