Moondown

(October 5, 1990)

Faintest
full moon—
great blown bubble
mirroring the almost-white blue
painted a-swash the westward horizon.
(Or, gentlest eye of softest blue,
cool in the glow of a streetlight.)
Suspended near-above a bowl of hills
for a near-mile straight-arrow stretch,
on a bend, coy,
she sidles away,
absconding her
sight.
