The Greening Spring

Ah!
those marvelous,
April and May.
The green grows up:
trickling up from water's edge;
creeping up dingy brown leaf-littered slopes;
climbing (secret) up bare shrubs, barren trees...
free, to flutter fresh in the warm breeze.
Amongst houses, color comes out before green:
dogwoods shine through passing-swift raincloud gloom;
vibrant azaleas dress to impress.
Full-flowered lilacs broadcast fragrance—
and cannot help
making some
sneeze.
