It
was nightfall:
as I stepped
forth from the house,
bracing in the biting wind,
I looked up westward, darkling way,
and—for a spell—my heart stopped:
there, sliver-of-moon and the brightest star
wrapped together in descending black
(great Elm swaying beneath),
suspended still-strong as
night's shroud
dropped.
