Blush
of red
on the maple
(my eyes playing tricks?);
and where the willow weeps,
a hint of yellow-green pouring down
(merely a trick of the rising sun?).
And all other trees, only brown, barren, bare.
Though the unhidden sun gladdens the morning,
masses of fearsome, forbidding storm clouds
muster over the horizon, northwest,
marching on bitter winds
to challenge any
trees that
dare.
